Healthy Choices

Good food doesn't have to be complicated. Or expensive.

The Mobile Music Lab's Healthy Choices program brings live, entertaining food and nutrition demonstrations to community events – with a specific focus on making healthy, flavorful eating accessible to families in every ZIP code, at every income level.

Healthy Choices features Chef Tim Witcher — an award-winning culinary professional with a gift for connecting with community audiences — in a live cooking demonstration format that is as entertaining as it is practical.

Every Healthy Choices demonstration is built around a simple premise: good nutrition shouldn’t require a specialty grocery store, a culinary degree, or a grocery budget that most families don’t have. Chef Tim creates flavorful, satisfying recipes using ingredients readily available at Walmart, local produce markets, Dollar General, and Family Dollar — the stores that are actually present and accessible in the communities we serve.

The result is a demonstration that meets people where they are. Not where we wish they were.

Why this matters

Millions of Americans live in food deserts — communities where access to fresh, affordable, nutritious food is limited by geography, transportation, and economics. In these communities, the conversation about healthy eating often feels disconnected from reality. The ingredients recommended don’t exist at the local store. The recipes assume equipment, time, and a budget that many families don’t have.

Healthy Choices was developed specifically to close that gap. Every recipe Chef Tim demonstrates is:

Chef Tim Witcher

Chef Tim Witcher is an award-winning culinary professional and educator whose approach to food is rooted in community, accessibility, and flavor. His ability to engage a crowd — across generations, income levels, and culinary backgrounds — makes Healthy Choices demonstrations genuinely memorable rather than merely instructional.

Chef Tim’s philosophy is straightforward: everyone deserves to eat well, and eating well is more achievable than most people have been led to believe. His demonstrations prove it, live, in front of the community.

The Food Desert Focus

We are actively developing partnerships with organizations working to address food insecurity and nutrition access in underserved communities throughout New Jersey and the Delaware Valley. If your organization is working in this space — whether as a service provider, a funder, or a community anchor — we welcome the conversation about how Healthy Choices can complement and extend your existing efforts.

For SNAP-Ed partners, Title I schools, and organizations serving food-insecure populations, mission-rate pricing is available. Contact us to discuss.

For grant writers and program administrators

Healthy Choices sits squarely within several active funding categories including food access, nutrition education, health equity, and community wellness in underserved populations. The program’s specific focus on affordable ingredients available at accessible retail locations — rather than specialty or organic grocery stores — makes it particularly relevant to grant programs targeting economic accessibility and food desert communities.

We are happy to provide program documentation, recipe frameworks, facilitator credentials, and letters of support for grant applications. We are also open to conversations with funders interested in supporting the expansion of Healthy Choices as a more broadly available standalone program.

How to Book Healthy Choices
